Would the nation care so much???

i would like to know if anyone agree's, that if the parents of missing madeliene where 18/25 yrs old and from a council estate and left there kids in an apartment while they went out for a quiet meal, would our great nation be backing them with funds to stay out there whilst the police search the area??

i think not

chances are that they would be dreadful parents and would have to stay in portugal for fear of of beng lynched when they got home.

don't get me wrong i do feel for the mcann family but can't help thinking that it could be so different.
Answer:
I concer. If they were younger and still living in Liverpool/Everton on state benefits then not a lot would be done. UK law states that no child uner 14 can be left unsupervtsed for any length of time.
Actually I agree. While I do think that no parent should have to suffer the loss of a missing child it's rather ignorant and careless of them to leave a child in a resort room on their own. Child snatchers probably look for those kind of people.
sad but true I'm afraid.....
I agree 100% but this subject is seriously seriously boring now, Im hoping for the day where I dont have to hear about this every 5 mins
check out current events mate, its all been said before - and yes, totally agree.

more fool the mugs who donate to the 'fund'
I'm not sure it's the nation caring so much as the tabloid editors giving blanked coverage because the participants are photogenic and it's potential heart-breaker, plus a chance to mock foreign police!
I agree that the reaction would be different, but only to the parents who would be flogged in the street (still can't get my head around why it's OK to leave them when they are abroad)

As far as looking for the missing child, I don't agree, I believe everyone would be just as intent on finding them.
I agree with you. It's a horrible situation, but I can't imagine ever leaving a 3 year old alone so I could go out and eat (even if it was just across the street) and I am not even a parent.
I agree. Also i cant understand why celebirities, and the press have made such a huge deal over this case, why not other kids that have been abducted or missing in the past.
But at the same time im glad they are doin so much to help.
In the United States, leaving a child of that age alone for any length of time, much less as long as this child was left alone is considered child neglect and child endangerment. The parents could very well have been considered unfit and the child could have been removed from the home by the government.
People are overreacting. I have found that very few people have any clue what the specific details of what happened were. Most don't even know that the restaurant they went to was right across the pool from their room. Am I saying they didn't make a big mistake? No. But the fact is that you can turn your head for 30 seconds, and every single parent on earth has, and turn around to find your kid dead, even at home. Under most circumstances, leaving them in that room was safer than having them with you and simply forgetting to watch them. I think people need to stop judging, which is useless and callous. You are not a better person than these folks. You are just a luckier one.
.....for me class shouldnt be included.....do i leave my kids alone and piss off for the evening ....?...no .....would i lynch someone who did it ?..no. but if the house catches on fire checking up on them every half hour isnt enough.....
maybe its a harsh lesson.....
I know!! I realize that European countries care more about the individual (they're smaller countries, their attitude is different, etc) but there's no way in Hell you'd have celebs and such putting up money for a safe return and that nonsense, and Yes, they should be pegged for bad parenting, no matter who they are, or what they do! I was appalled when I heard that story.

You should NEVER leave you children alone like that, in a foreign country or not, for heaven's sake!!!
in 100% agreement with yourself and kerry-ann, that was the first thing i said at work when i heard the story, my wife felt the same.
but let's get the girl home first, then we can have all three of them given to foster parents who actually give a **** about their childrens upbringing.
You have made a valid point and I'm sure in some respects it is true.

However, it is the press that dishes the dirt and then sits back to watch everything unfold. With the McCanns there is no dirt to dish except that they made the biggest mistake of their youngs lifes and this will live with them for ever.

Let us get this into prospective here the most important issue and concern is that Madelines is found safe and well.

Then after that the baying hounds can be set free.
a little girl is missing and you think that it's a class thing get a grip! if any child of this nation goes missing the whole nation does care about the well-fare of them! no matter which class you are born into or the family circumstances each and every child is an innocent and no one has the right to take them away from their family.
I think the focus right now is finding the little girl and after they do, then the focus may shift to the parents. Hopefully this is a good lesson to other parents who leave young children alone.
this is why people tend to think diffrently due to status as a working class lad brought up on an esstate i would like to think any parent in this situation would get the same treatment as each other 1.5 million is not enough in my book
As a Mother of two and grandmother of six I can't imagine leaving a child alone anywhere let alone in a hotel.... Who's to say what could happen, this is very sad for the child and I do hope that they find her and she's OK, but as for the parents not a lot of sympathy for them as they made the choice to leave their children alone to fen for themselves........... Sorry if I sound harsh but that's the way I feel.................
yes i agree, they should never have been left on there own, but that is something the parents will have to live with, for the rest of there life, the main focus is finding that little girl alive and well somewhere, all the best
you're right
although i see your point - i dont agree, had this been the case of the family on the council estate would...
A-the council estate18-25 year olds would be unlikely to afford the holiday to Praire De Luz ,Portugal if they had 3 kids under the age of 4....
B-the kids would already be on the 'at risk register' with the police and Social Services FACT!! if neighbours had noted and reported that they were being left regulary on their own
C-yes why shouldnt OUR NATION support the funding of Maddie or any other child - it doesnt matter what social status there is behind the story.......

This isnt some game or political or social heirarchy - regardless of what the background, BRITAIN is a great country with a good heart, ....and we all look at the situation as if it were our own family. I should imagine the parents are kicking themselves and feel guilty enough about leaving Maddie, but the main concern is finding her safe and well.....poor little lamb :(

remember Ben Needham ....??? anyone
