Would this excuse get me out of Jury duty???

I am having surgery on May 2 and I have jury duty May 14. The surgery I am getting will give me black eyes for 3 weeks. Do you think my doctor will sign the summons excusing me from jury service if I tell him that I will feel uncomfortable being in a court room with black eyes???

Such a petty excuse for not fulfilling your civic responsibility. I just hope that the week your family member is on trial the intelligent people are not concerned about how they look and are willing to serve as jurists.

Say that it will prevent you from being objectivce and that you will not be able to focus on the mater at hand, due to discomfort, and self conciousness.

My mom got out of jury duty because she owns/runs a small business. She said there was no way she could close.

Just convincly tell them that you truly feel everyone charged with a crime must have done something wrong ... cuz no one gets arrested if they are totally innocent.
Or tell them you are racist, and you would vote to convict anyone not of your race.
Even if this isn't how you feel, it should get you off jury duty.

Tell them you have the 3rd stage o syphilis and the whole room will be infected with some disgusting suppurating pustules!!! Or just say that you are a thinking American that knows oj was, and is, guilty! They will certainly dismiss you!!!

no the doctor won't give you an excuse just tell the courts that you are iliterate and your slow in speach it worked for my husband

Pardon me for a moment while I try to understand you.

Because you don't like the way you will look, you want to try to use that as an excuse to get out of jury duty?

I doubt it will stack up to, I can't afford to miss work, which is NOT a legitimate excuse to get out of Jury Duty. I doubt it will stack up to, I care for my grandmother at home, which often doesn't get you out of jury duty unless you are the sole caregiver.

And frankly, with all due respect to your sensabilities, how selfish of you. Noone wants to go into the public spectrum looking bad. I get that. But to me that is tantamount to saying, "I have nothing to wear to court Your Honor, please excuse me from Jury Duty."

There are a lot of valid reasons out there. Your's, while understandable, isn't a valid reason in my mind.

Your doctor does not have the authority to excuse you from jury duty. You will need to contact the Jury Commissioner or Court clerk and explain that you are recovering from surgery and will not be available for a couple more weeks. So long as you are willing to serve and not trying to get out of the jury service, they will most likely be kind and cooperative.

I doubt that will work. If you know any of the lawyers or the judge--that would get you excused.
