Would volunteering to take a polygraph while I am under an investigation. Help me or just be stupid?

My company said they would have an answer last thursday, they have not returned my calls, and I am dying to clear my name. Is this a good idea?
Answer:
If you have nothing to hide, then yes I think it would help you out.l But not sure of the situation since you didn't give to much in your question.
If you have something to hide dont' take it cause it would show you are hiding something, and that can come back to bite you in the rear.
I guess it depends on whether or not you are innocent.
I wouldn't volunteer before they asked me to take one. They're not always accurate - you could volunteer to take one that could just set you up for more trouble. And unless you're a special agent or someone who's been trained to trick the test, there's no way you could lie and get away with it.

"Guilty employees will also volunteer to take the test, because if they don't, they look guilty. Reassure employees that the examiner is not going to ask intrusive, personal questions about their lives, which are unrelated to the investigation." (link 2)

"If you assume that polygraphs are 90% accurate, this means 10% of the time you test someone, they can lie and get away with it, or (even worse) they can tell the truth and be accused of lying. And even if you re-test someone, one percent of the time they will pass both tests when lying or fail both when telling the truth. Considering that thousands of polygraph tests are given each year, by the government and by industry, it means at least tens of people could be tested twice and be wrongly accused. And "accused" often means the loss of a job or career!"(link 5)
TAKING A POLYGRAPH AT ANY TIME IS SCARY BECAUSE IT ALWAYS LIES UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO TAKE ONE ASK A LAWYER IF YOU ARE TAKING MED'S OF ANY KIND IT WILL SHOW UP THAT YOUR LYING EVEN IF YOUR TELLING THE TRUTH IF YOU ARE TAKING MED'S YOU CAN FIGHT IT IN COURT AND HAVE THE CHARGES DROPPED THAT'S THE LAW
DON'T DO SQUAT WITHOUT TALKING TO AN ATTORNEY.

Honestly, if they like you for something bad, a polygraph test won't mean much to them. I can't imagine a situation where I would take a polygraph. They are not admissible and the test result is subject to human interpretation.

You pass: They say it is a false negative.
Inconclusive: You're a liar who can't get your story straight.
You fail: See we said you are guilty.

No thanks, three ways to go and you loose in all three directions.

See an attorney. Even innocent people need representation.
well, depending on whether ur telling the truth or not. polygraph's are not 100% accurate and there is no gaurantee that this will "clear your name" many ppl can fool polygraphs. see, the brain is a powerful thing. if u believe something enough, %26 in ur mind its true, then u cna fool a polygraph.
